During the process of Macao’s economic development and evolution into modern times, the contribution from Chinese merchants was crucial and enabled an important positive transformation. Since the middle of the 19th Century, the power of Chinese merchants had continuously expanded, encompassing all of Macao’s industries. In particular, Lou’s family was the most influential and powerful of all the merchants in Macao. Lou Va Sio (Lou Kau), Lou Kuong U, Lou Lim Ieoc, Lou Huen Chung, Lou I Ieoc and Lou Hing Yuen became famous members of Lou’s family. They ran businesses in Macao for nearly half a century, engaging in different aspects of the city’s development, including politics, the economy and society, as they greatly contributed towards promoting social advancement.
Lou’s family was involved in many of Macao’s core industries, such as gaming, opium, industrial enterprise, trade and real estate. In particular, their achievements in the gaming industry were very significant. Having become rich, the family did their utmost to contribute towards social welfare, actively facilitating the improvement of education, promotion of Chinese social status and enhancement of general quality of life in Macao.
在近代澳門經濟發展及轉型的過程中,華人華商的參與和推動起着重大的作用,在19世紀中葉以後,不斷擴張的華商力量幾乎攏攬了澳門所有的行業,當中以盧氏家族最具實力及影響力。盧氏家族以盧華紹(盧九)、盧光裕、盧廉若、盧煊仲、盧怡若、盧興源為主要成員,他們在澳營商近半個世紀,涉足近代澳門政治、經濟、社會生活等方面,為推動社會進步貢獻良多。
